A lot of tourists to Phuket ask me what events, especially religious, traditional and cultural, are happening during their stays that are interesting to photograph. And I’ll usually send them a list of events going on in Phuket that I’d like to take photos of (and don’t get time to go to). So now I’ll just post on the blog at the start of every month instead. Get out there with your cameras and take beautiful photos!

And let me share this amazing photo taken by Khun Id. Super lucky to be walking down Soi Rominee with a gorgeous bride and groom doing a pre-wedding shoot when 2 monks appeared and agreed to have their photo taken with the happy couple. This will never happen again. It’s just so lovely and the memory of how excited they were, especially the groom will stay in my memory for a long time.

February 11th to 14 there is the annual yacht show at Ao Po Grand Marina if you like luxury super yachts. The show will highlight yachting charters, boating industry and luxury lifestyle events and of course the super yachts will be on display. Ao Por Grand Marina is the biggest super yacht marina in the Asia Pacific region. You can expect to be impressed.

February 14th is Valentines Day and most Phuket restaurants and resorts are holding special love events. It pays to book in advance to be sure of a table. Aleenta Resort & Spa in Phang Nga has a bridal show from 4 pm which looks interesting for people in the wedding industry and for future brides and grooms. There will be a bridal fashion show, ceremony and reception displays, demonstrations from Aleenta’s award-winning spa team, wedding menu food sampling, lucky draws, special promotions, a fortune teller which is a big weird and quirky, live music and  complimentary cocktail reception. Fun, interesting and a very good way to drop a hint if you are still waiting for him to ask!

Phuket Old Town is already decorated for Chinese New Year that starts in a few days and many events going on with nowhere to park so get a taxi or tuk tuk to make it easier.

February 7 – 13: Endless photo opportunities at the Wat Chalong Fair. I live just around the corner so will at least make it there. You will find anything you can imagine for sale at the market inside the temple grounds. Shop till you drop, eat local food, listen to Thai musicians and roam the temple buildings which will be decorated beautifully.

February 13-15: Go to the Phuket Old Town Festival showing Thai & Chinese traditions with a Baba light show, rickshaw tours, cultural parades, Chinese opera performances and Chinese folk dancing.

February 17 – 21: The Bary Regatta happens around Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi with racing and sailing and amazing scenery and local and international crews competing.
